Dr. Ken Schultz brings more than 20 years of experience spanning clinical medicine, pharmaceutical strategy, and medical device innovation to his role at Trethera. As the physician-scientist who dosed the first patient in history with a salvage pathway inhibitor, he is both the architect and hands-on driver of TRE-515’s development.

Prior to joining Trethera as Chairman, CEO & President, Dr. Schultz served as VP of Innovation, Strategy, and Business Development at Halozyme, where he executed six major licensing agreements and contributed to more than $3 billion in market cap growth. At Medtronic, as Chief of Strategy for the Diabetes Division, he led business development efforts tied to the artificial pancreas — named Time Magazine’s 2013 Invention of the Year.

His earlier career included strategy consulting at McKinsey & Company and active clinical practice as Vice-Chair of Emergency Medicine. That breadth — practicing physician, McKinsey-trained strategist, and biotech executive — is precisely what a first-in-class drug requires at the helm. Dr. Schultz knows how to translate science into clinical reality, build institutional partnerships, and raise capital to sustain the journey. He holds an MD from Texas Tech University, an MBA from IMD Switzerland, and a BS from Texas A&M.

Cary Talbot brings decades of operational and commercial leadership in biotech and medical devices to his role as COO of Trethera. A prolific inventor with more than 50 US patents, he has spent his career building the infrastructure that transforms novel science into market-ready therapies.

At Medtronic, Talbot held roles of increasing responsibility across patent prosecution, systems research engineering, product marketing, and strategic planning. As Director of Marketing Business Development for Digital Healthcare, he led a cross-functional team to define and launch a new digital health service — from market research gathering customers’ unmet needs, through product definition and development, to commercialization. He was also one of two inventors honored with Medtronic’s Patent of Distinction for the closed-loop insulin delivery system, the world’s first artificial pancreas, that underpins the MiniMed 670G, the cornerstone of a more than $2 billion business unit. Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles at Hughes Aircraft, where he honed his systems engineering and complex product development skills as a lead engineer on a “Star Wars” space missile system. At Trethera, Talbot brings the operational rigor and commercial readiness expertise that a first-in-class asset requires — not just to reach the market, but to perform in it. He holds an engineering degree specializing in communication systems and control theory from California State University, Northridge.
